UN chief condemns attack that kills 2 peacekeepers in Mali

UNITED NATIONS, April 5 (Xinhua) -- United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has condemned Thursday's mortar attack against peacekeepers in Mali, which left two dead and at least 10 others injured.

Stephane Dujarric, spokesperson for Guterres, said the secretary-general condemned the attack against the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) camp that killed two Chadian peacekeepers and injured at least 10 others in Aguelhok, Kidal region.

"The secretary-general recalls that attacks targeting peacekeepers may constitute war crimes under international law. These acts only reinforce the commitment of the United Nations to support the people and the Government of Mali in their quest for peace," the spokesperson added.

The UN peacekeeping mission in Mali has been one of the most dangerous, with more than 150 peacekeepers killed since 2013. Last month, four UN peacekeepers were killed when a mine exploded under their vehicle in central Mali. Enditem
