TRIPOLI, April 5 (Xinhua) -- The Presidency Council of the Libyan UN-backed government supported the Libya Stabilization Fund, which the government runs in cooperation with the UN Support Mission in Libya, with 5 million U.S. dollars.

"Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary General Maria Ribeiro and Minister (of Planning) al-Taher al-Juhaimi signed a 5-million-dollar contribution by the Presidency Council to Libya Stabilization Fund," the mission said on Thursday.

"This contribution is a clear message that the Stabilization Fund is a Libyan-owned," Ribeiro said. "It is a tangible benefit for Libyans living in difficult circumstances to improving their lives."

The Libya Stabilization Fund started in 2016 and is run by the Libyan Ministry of Planning in cooperation with the UN Mission.

The fund, which relies on donations from Western countries, seeks to provide assistance to vulnerable groups in Libya that suffer from military actions and conflicts in the country.

Earlier this year, the mission launched a humanitarian response plan in Libya, seeking to raise 313 million dollars to assist more than 1 million Libyans. Enditem
