MADRID, April 5 (Xinhua) -- Nine German cyclists were injured when a four-wheel drive vehicle ploughed into them on the island of Mallorca on Thursday morning.

Local media reported that one of the cyclists was in critical condition, two are in serious condition, while the other six suffered minor injuries.

The accident happened on the MA-15 road between the towns of Arta and Capdepera when the vehicle, driven by a 30-year-old woman, drove into a group of 15 cyclists who were on a training race.

The cyclists were reported to be between the ages of 30 and 40 years old.

The injured were taken to various hospitals on the island.

The driver tested positive for alcohol when Spanish Civil Guards carried out tests.

Figures published by the Spanish General Direction of Traffic at the beginning of 2018 showed 44 cyclists died on Spanish roads in 2017. Enditem
