U.S. jobless claims rebound last week

WASHINGTON, April 5 (Xinhua) -- The number of people filing for U.S. unemployment benefits increased 24,000 in the week which ends March 31, rebounding from the a 45-year low in the previous week, the U.S. Labor Department said Thursday.

The seasonally adjusted figure of initial jobless claims across the United States was 242,000 last week. The week marked the 161th straight week that the figure remained below the 300,000 threshold, which is associated with a strong labor market.

With the unemployment rate at a 17-year low of 4.1 percent and low level of jobless claims, the U.S. labor market is near full employment. Enditem
