Warm weather expected to cause flooding in Russia's Siberia

VLADIVOSTOK, Russia, April 5 (Xinhua) -- Warm weather in the coming days is expected to cause floods in Russia's far east region Siberia, the local office of the Russian Emergencies Ministry said Thursday.

"Between April 6 and 9, the rising temperature will cause intense snowmelt and small rivers to burst their banks, which may trigger massive flooding. The lowland areas, populated areas, bridges and roads might be inundated by flooding," it said.

The republics of Altai and Tuva, as well as the Krasnoyarsk Krai and the Kemerovo region are expected to be among the worst hit, it added.

Local authorities in Siberia are required to take measures to protect residential buildings and important facilities from floodings. Enditem
