TIKRIT, Iraq -- Hundreds of people suffer from diarrhea and colic admitted to hospitals during the past two days in Iraq's central province of Salahudin due to contamination of drinking water, medical sources said on Wednesday.

"The tests in the laboratories confirmed that drinking water from Tigris River was highly contaminated with fecal and intestinal bacteria," Mohammed al-Azzawi, deputy head of the medical center of the town of al-Alam, told Xinhua. (Iraq-Pollution)

WASHINGTON -- U.S. President Donald Trump will sign a proclamation on Wednesday directing the deployment of the National Guard to the country's border with Mexico, Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen said.

"The president has directed that the Department of Defense and the Department of Homeland Security work together with our governors to deploy the National Guard to our southwest border," Nielsen told a White House news briefing. (US-Mexico-Border)

FREETOWN -- Julius Maada Bio of the main opposition Sierra Leone People's Party won Sierra Leone's presidential runoff, the National Electoral Commission said on Wednesday.

Maada Bio obtained 51.81 percent of valid vote, while his main challenger, Samura Kamara, of the ruling All People's Congress garnered 48.19 percent, according to official results released by the commission.(Sierra Leone-Election) Enditem
