BERLIN, April 4 (Xinhua) -- Nearly one in seven underage Germans has lived on public welfare last year, according to latest statistics released Wednesday by the country's job center.

There were over 2 million children and teenagers from families, which had received public welfare money called Hartz IV due to unemployment or low income last June. The figure was 5.2 percent higher than that compared with the same period of 2016, according to the job center BA.

Almost 600,000 of the minor come from immigrant families, showed the statistics.

According to the latest Hartz IV standard, German children and teenagers at varying ages can receive from 240 to 316 euros monthly from the government. Enditem
