PARIS, April 4 (Xinhua) -- French President Emmanuel Macron and his American counterpart Donald Trump discussed Wednesday their countries'joint action against the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq, vowing further efforts to stamp out the group in the region, the French presidency said in a press release.

"France and the United States are determined to continue their actions within the international coalition to fight to the end this terrorist organization which represents both a threat to regional stability and to our security interests," both leaders said over phone.

"Nothing should distract us from the objective of preventing Islamic State's resurgence in the region and allowing an inclusive political process in Syria," Macron added, according to the statement.

The French president is to visit Washington from April 23 to 25. Enditem
