WASHINGTON -- China strongly condemns and firmly opposes new tariffs to be imposed by the United States on a list of Chinese products, the Chinese Embassy in the United States said here Tuesday.
"The Chinese side strongly condemns and firmly opposes the unfounded Section 301 investigation and the proposed list of products and tariff increases based on the investigation," the embassy said in a statement, shortly after Washington unveiled the list, which will affect Chinese imports worth 50 billion U.S. dollars. SAN FRANCISCO -- Fruit farmers in California said they hope the United States and China could step up negotiation efforts to stop tariffs as the fruits on the trees are awaiting harvest.
California's fresh fruits, primarily citrus, are subject to a 15-percent tariff increase from China since Monday. The imposition of the tariff is in retaliation of the Trump administration's proposed tariff on China's steel and aluminum. (US-China-Trade)

JALALABAD, Afghanistan -- At least four members of Islamic State (IS) militant group were killed following an airstrike conducted by the U.S.and NATO-led coalition forces' unmanned plane, authorities said Wednesday.
The strike occurred at around midday on Tuesday after the plane targeted an IS hideout in Haska Mina district, the provincial government said in a statement, adding amount of weapons and ammunition of the IS group were also destroyed. (Afghanistan-Drone Strike)

KABUL -- At least two people were wounded after an explosion rocked near a big mosque in the central neighborhood of Kabul on Wednesday, witnesses and sources said.
"We heard a huge blast near Eid Gah Mosque at around 07:30 a.m. local time. The explosion caused panic among the residents and passersby at the morning rush hour. The whole place has now been sealed off," witness Farhad Mohammadi told Xinhua via phone. (Afghan-Explosion)

HANOI -- From May 17, Vietnam will not impose import quotas on salt and fowl eggs with Association of Southeast Asian Nations origin, the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade said on Wednesday.
