10 militants killed in Afghan northern Sari Pul province

SARI PUL, Afghanistan, April 4 (Xinhua) -- At least 10 militants were killed and eight others injured as cleanup operations entered the second day in Shiram area outside Sari Pul's provincial capital on Wednesday, an army spokesman of the northern region Mohammad Hanif Rezai said.

The government forces, according to the official, launched cleanup operations in Shiram area on Tuesday and also recaptured several villagers from the militant group.

A Taliban group commander Qari Amin was also among those killed in the ongoing operations supported by air power, the official asserted.

Without mentioning the possible casualties of security forces, the official said that the operations would last until the area is cleansed of insurgents.

Taliban militants haven't commented on the situation. Enditem
