KABUL, April 4 (Xinhua) -- At least two people were wounded after an explosion rocked near a big mosque in the central neighborhood of Kabul on Wednesday, witnesses and sources said.
"We heard a huge blast near Eid Gah Mosque at around 07:30 a.m. local time. The explosion caused panic among the residents and passersby at the morning rush hour. The whole place has now been sealed off," witness Farhad Mohammadi told Xinhua via phone.
A police officer who declined to be named told Xinhua that an improvised explosive device (IED) planted near a sub-office of the National Defense Ministry was detonated in Police District 16 of the city, leaving two people injured.
The injured were shifted to a nearby hospital.
"The given information was based on the initial findings of our police. So far, we have no more details, but we will try to get more information and authorized Kabul police officials will share with media the outcome of the ongoing investigation," he said.
The capital city has been hit by series of terror attacks over the past couple of years.
On March 24, one civilian was killed and 11 others injured after a bomb attack struck a demonstration at the same area. Enditem
