Tajikistan hails Kuwait's humanitarian efforts

KUWAIT CITY, April 3 (Xinhua) -- Tajikistan lauded on Tuesday relief and humanitarian missions carried out globally by the Kuwaiti Red Crescent Society (KRCS), the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) said.

The visiting Secretary General of the Tajik Red Crescent Society, Bahodur Kurbinyon Bobojon, made the remarks when meeting with KRCS Secretary General, Maha Al-Barjas, KUNA said.

Bahodur Kurbinyon Bobojon underlined in particular the KRCS help for the Tajik people in aftermath of the 2015 earthquake, expressing appreciation for the Kuwaiti help for nations stricken with natural catastrophes.

The KRCS had provided various aid to 5,000 people in three Tajik provinces close to the borders with Afghanistan, he added.

He discussed his country's need for houses, land reclamation, medicines and care for orphans with Maha Al-Barjas, who affirmed readiness to provide the assistance required to relieve people in need in the republic.

A 7.2-magnitude earthquake hit Gorno-Badakhshan in Tajikistan on Dec. 7, 2015.

According to official figures, the number of damaged and destroyed houses standed at 1,327 as of Dec. 11, and more than 7,962 people have been displaced. Enditem
