RIYADH, April 3 (Xinhua) -- The Saudi-led coalition said it thwarted a Houthi attack on a Saudi oil tanker on Tuesday, Al Arabiya local news reported.
Col. Turki Al Maliki, the spokesperson of the coalition, said in a statement that the attack took place in the afternoon in the international waters west of the port of Hodeidah which is under the control of Houthis in Yemen.
The oil tanker suffered minor damage, but managed to continue sailing northward accompanied by the coalition forces, he added.
Describing the attack as a terrorist plot, the Saudi spokesperson warned of its serious impact on the maritime navigation and international trade in the Strait of Bab al-Mandab and the Red Sea.
Al Maliki also highlighted the need to put the port of Hodeidah under the international supervision to prevent the Houthi militias from using it to launch attacks and threaten maritime navigation. Enditem
