Singapore stocks close 0.54 pct lower

SINGAPORE, April 3 (Xinhua) -- Singapore stocks closed lower on Tuesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) wend down 0.54 percent or 18.61 points to close at 3412.15.

A total of 1.59 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 1.23 billion Singapore dollars (about 940.5 million U.S. dollars). Losers outnumbered gainers by 263 to 147.

The STI index closed up 0.08 percent or 2.79 points to close at 3430.76 Monday. Enditem
