CHICAGO -- Gold futures on the COMEX division of the New York Mercantile Exchange rose 1.48 percent on Monday amid escalating trade tensions between China and the United States.

The most active gold contract for June delivery rose 19.6 U.S. dollars, or 1.48 percent, to settle at 1,346.90 dollars per ounce. (US-Gold)

MOGADISHU -- At least seven people including six members of an extended family were killed in a roadside blast in Bula-burte district in Hiraan region of central Somalia on Monday.

Abdi Dahir Gure, Bula-burte District Commissioner, confirmed the incident, saying a father and mother including their four children were among those killed in the latest landmine attack by al-Shabab militants. (Somalia-Security)

DAMASCUS -- Some 1,146 militants of the Islam Army and their families departed the Douma district in Eastern Ghouta toward the rebel-held Jarablus city in the north, marking the first batch of this rebel group to evacuate their main stronghold near Damascus, according to the state news agency SANA.

Buses transporting the rebels left Douma and reached the crossing of Wafideen area northeast of Damascus, before they set off late in the evening to Jarablus in the northern countryside of Aleppo province near the Turkish border. (Syria-Rebels)

GAZA -- At least 12 Palestinians were wounded Monday in rallies close to the Gaza-Israeli border, medics said.

Some 12 Palestinian demonstrators were shot and wounded by Israeli soldiers gunfire, said Ashraf al-Qedra, spokesman of health ministry in Gaza. (Palestine-Gaza-Israel) Enditem
