Sudan welcomes selection of Ethiopia's new PM

KHARTOUM, April 2 (Xinhua) -- Sudan on Monday welcomed the decision by the Ethiopian parliament to select Abiy Ahmed as the prime minister.

The ministry congratulated the Ethiopian leadership over its wisdom represented in overcoming the hard challenges the country faced in the past period.

It expressed hope that the selection of a new prime minister would enhance political stability as well as economic and social development in Ethiopia, contribute to boosting the progressive Sudanese-Ethiopian ties and keep Ethiopia's essential role in the regional and international arenas.

The ministry further reiterated Sudan's readiness to continue cooperation with the new Ethiopian leadership in all fields in a manner that achieves the ambitions of the Sudanese and Ethiopian peoples in security, stability and development.

Abiy Ahmed has been selected after Hailemariam Desalegn, who had been Ethiopia's prime minister since 2012, turned in his resignation on Feb. 15 in the wake of a political crisis. Enditem
