LUSAKA, April 1 (Xinhua) -- The following are news highlights in Zambia's major media outlets on Sunday.

--Traditional leaders from eastern Zambia have come to the rescue of President Edgar Lungu over his origin, saying he hails from one of the districts in the province.

The traditional leaders have described as false and insulting continued allegations that Lungu was a foreigner. (Zambia Daily Mail)

--Zambia has commended the Indian government for the support it has been offering the southern African nation in the medical sector.

Zambia's High Commissioner to India Judith Kapijimpanga said the government was grateful to India for fully-sponsored programs it has been offering to Zambia aimed at improving its health sector through improvement of medical services. (Daily Nation)

--Scotland has given Zambia 1.2 million British Pounds towards the implementation of a community ear and hearing care and rehabilitation of hearing loss project in the country.

Central Province Permanent Secretary Chanda Kabwe said during the launch of the project that the project, which will run from 2018 to 2022, will benefit 45,000 people with hearing loss and 72,000 others with common ear problems. (Times of Zambia) Enditem
