Fresh graduates join Afghan national army

KABUL, April 1 (Xinhua) -- About 1,000 newly graduated Afghan soldiers joined the country's national army on Sunday, a senior army official said on Sunday.

"I congratulate each of you resolute soldiers graduating today. You are reinforcing the ranks of Afghan National Army (ANA), bringing fresh dynamism in providing security for our people and you will prove that our enemies are wrong," Afghan Army Joint Chief of Staff Mohammad Sharif Yaftali said at the ceremony in Kabul Military Training Center (KMTC).

The fresh graduates will boost the capacity of the Afghan army and enable the security forces to further check subversive activities, he said, adding most of the newly commissioned soldiers will be deployed to western Afghan provinces.

The latest graduation came as Taliban militants and Islamic State (IS) affiliates have escalated attacks in different places, including western Afghan region.

The newly graduates have received a three-month training at the KMTC in eastern Kabul. Enditem
