CAPE TOWN, April 1 (Xinhua) -- The following are news items in South African major news outlets on Monday:

-- Prosecutors are taking the state's battle against the Gupta family to Dubai, where officials have asked the United Arab Emirates government to preserve millions of rand that the family allegedly stole and transferred out of South Africa.

This follows an order granted this week by the High Court in Bloemfontein, Free State Province in favor of the Asset Forfeiture Unit, increasing the preservation order first granted in January to 250 million rand (about 21 million U.S. dollars). (City Press)

-- Economists say the value added tax (VAT) increase from 14 percent to 15 percent, which takes effect from April 1, is going to hurt the pockets of all consumers.

Some economists have advised that consumers turn to food items which have zero vat implications.(Eyewitness News)

-- Anglican Archbishop of Cape Town Thabo Makgoba on Saturday urged President Cyril Ramaphosa to commit to a new struggle of values and institutions that cannot be undermined by one party or an individual.
