S.Korea's exports grow for 17th consecutive month to March

SEOUL, April 1 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's exports, which account for about half of the economy, grew for the 17th consecutive month to March, a government report showed Sunday.
The outbound shipment stood at 51.58 billion U.S. dollars in March, up 6.1 percent from a year earlier, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
The figure was bigger than any March export, topping 50 billion dollars for the first time. The upward trend lasted for 17 months in a row.
Imports gained 5 percent from a year earlier to 44.72 billion dollars, sending the March trade surplus to 6.86 billion dollars. The trade balance stayed in black for 74 straight months.
The daily average export in March was 2.19 billion dollars, posting the biggest-ever amount in the month.
For the first three months of this year, exports expanded 10.3 percent compared with the same period of last year. It kept an upward trend for six straight quarters since the fourth quarter of 2016. Enditem
