KATHMANDU -- Nepal's central bank's investment in Yuan-based Chinese securities had increased by nearly five times over the last five years, Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) said.
The NRB first got a quota of investing up to 1.2 billion Yuan (190 million U.S. dollar) from People's Bank of China as per the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the central banks of the two countries in June 2013.
After the signing of the agreement, the NRB started investing in Chinese securities. Nepal's central bank's investment, as of end of December 2017, reached 5.67 billion Yuan (900 million U.S. dollar), 4.7 times more than initial quota determined for NRB, the Nepali central bank said. SEOUL -- Three South Koreans were presumed to have been kidnapped by pirates in seas off Ghana, the foreign ministry said Saturday.
Marine 711, a fishing boat with three South Koreans aboard, was believed to have been abducted in seas off Ghana at about 5:30 p.m. on Monday (Ghana time), according to a press release from the foreign ministry. (South Koreas-Abduction-Africa)

HANOI -- The prime ministers of Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam (CLV) on Saturday endorsed an action plan to connect CLV economies till 2030.
According to the action plan, Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia will focus on connecting their institutions and policies, infrastructure, especially transport and electricity, and human factors involving cooperation on education, training, healthcare and culture, Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc told reporters after the 10th CLV Summit on Development Triangle Area in Vietnam's capital. HANOI -- Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Saturday called on countries in the Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS) to seize opportunities and break new ground for the cooperation and development in the sub-region.
Addressing the 6th GMS Summit, Wang noted that over the past 25 years, the six GMS countries have cooperated with and supported each other, sought development paths that suit their national conditions, and advanced toward peace, stability and prosperity.
"We have actively participated in economic globalization, worked together to mitigate the Asian and global financial crises and emerged as a strong driving force for Asia's economic growth," he said. (China-GMS-Development)

HANOI -- Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Saturday that protectionism harms others without benefiting oneself and it is also a one-way street that leads nowhere.
Wang made the comments here at the ongoing sixth summit of the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Economic Cooperation.
Openness has been essential to the development of the subregion, he said, adding that without it, it would be impossible to accomplish so much.
Wang called on the subregion to expand openness to secure greater development in the future. (China-Trade-Protectionism)
