Distraction by mobile phones causes 10.5 pct of road accidents: report

BEIJING, March 30 (Xinhua) -- A report has shown that mobile phone distraction led to over 10.5 percent of road accidents in China from Jan. 1, 2012 to June 30, 2017.@ During the period, a total of 4.49 million road accident cases were settled at courts nationwide, according to a report issued by a research institute on judicial big data.

The most common cause of the accidents was driving without a license, which led to 26.86 percent of the cases, followed by drunk driving and distraction by mobile phones.

Over 89 percent of the accidents occurred on rural roads. Enditem
