China's top political advisor Wang Yang on Thursday called on the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) to keep pace with the new era and strive to improve the quality of its work.

Wang, chairman of the 13th CPPCC National Committee, made the remarks at the third chairpersons' meeting of the committee.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the reform and opening-up, said Wang, noting that the CPPCC should carry forward its fine traditions and strive to achieve high-quality development in its work.

Wang encouraged leadership of the 13th CPPCC National Committee to take the initiative to implement the decisions of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and fulfill their duties.

Wang also called on the CPPCC to give full play to its roles as a united front organization and as an important channel for consultative democracy.
