WASHINGTON -- The number of people filing for U.S. unemployment benefits dropped 12,000 to stand at 215,000 in the week which ends March 24, the lowest level since Jan. 1973, the U.S. Labor Department said Thursday.

The week marked the 160th straight week that the figure remained below the 300,000 threshold, which is associated with a strong labor market. (US-Jobless)

CARACAS -- A prison riot erupted and a fire broke out at a Venezuelan police station in the central city of Valencia, killing at least 68 people, Venezuelan chief prosecutor said Wednesday.

Attorney General Tarek William Saab confirmed that according to preliminary inquiries, the dead were 66 men and two women who were visiting the prison overnight. (Venezuela-Riot-Death)

NEW DELHI -- A major fire broke out Thursday inside a chemical factory in southern Indian state of Karnataka, police said.

According to officials no loss of life or causality was reported in the incident as more than 50 employees inside the factory were rushed to safety. (India-Factory Fire)

SEOUL -- Officials of South Korea and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Thursday agreed to hold the planned summit between their leaders on April 27 in the truce village of Panmunjom.

The agreement was reached during a high-level dialogue between the two sides, which were held earlier in the day at Tongilgak, a DPRK building in Panmunjom. (S.Korea-DPRK-Summit)

CAIRO -- Initial results showed that Egypt's incumbent President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi won 92 percent of votes in the 2018 presidential election, with 23 million Egyptians voting for him, state-run Al-Ahram news website reported Thursday.
