U.S. jobless claims drop to lowest level since 1973

Xinhua,March 29, 2018 Adjust font size:

WASHINGTON, March 29 (Xinhua) -- The number of people filing for U.S. unemployment benefits dropped 12,000 to stand at 215,000 in the week which ends March 24, the lowest level since Jan. 1973, the U.S. Labor Department said Thursday.

The week marked the 160th straight week that the figure remained below the 300,000 threshold, which is associated with a strong labor market.

With the unemployment rate at a 17-year low of 4.1 percent and declining jobless claims, the U.S. labor market is near full employment. Enditem
