RABAT, March 29 (Xinhua) -- Nine people were killed and six others were injured Thursday in a road accident in southern Morocco, local authorities said.

Authorities of the Moroccan province of Chtouka Ait Baha said the accident took place in a rural town involving a collision between a van carrying agricultural workers and a bus.

The wounded were rushed to the Chtouka Ait Baha Provincial Hospital for medical treatment, the authorities said.

An investigation has been launched into the accident.

A total of 3,499 people were killed in road accidents in Morocco in 2017, down 2.62 percent from a year earlier, according to the Moroccan Transport Ministry.

In 2016, the Moroccan government adopted a new national road safety strategy with the aim of reducing the fatalities in road accidents by 25 percent by 2021, and 50 percent by 2026. Enditem
