German far-right extremist arrested in Budapest: report

Xinhua,March 28, 2018 Adjust font size:

BERLIN, March 28 (Xinhua) -- The wanted far-right extremist Mario Roensch has been arrested by a Hungarian special forces unit following a corresponding request by German authorities, the newspaper "Sueddeutsche Zeitung" reported on Wednesday.

Roensch stands accused by the chief public prosecution office in the state of Berlin of illegally dealing with weapons and is believed to be the operator of the notorious far-right internet portals "Migrantenschreck.ru" and "Anonymousnews.ru" which were both registered outside of Germany to escape prosecution.

The 35-year-old allegedly sold unlicensed weapons to hundreds of German customers via the internet in order to arm them against recently-arrived refugees.

Additionally, the racist posts and fake news articles distributed by Roensch's foreign-registered websites reportedly reached millions of readers.

According to a press statement by state prosecutors, the volume of sales concluded by Roensch through his online store was "frightening".

Back in July 2017, customs authorities first discovered 13 firearms in the states of Berlin, Brandenburg and Thueringen, which were purchased from the right-wing extremists' e-commerce business.

Investigations into the case are still ongoing in Germany and have so far produced 14 suspects aged between 16 and 66 years. Enditem
