BEIJING, March 28 (Xinhua) -- Congratulations have been pouring in from around the world since Xi Jinping was elected Chinese president by a unanimous vote on March 17 at the annual session of the National People's Congress, China's national legislature.
Xi was also unanimously elected chairman of the Central Military Commission.
In their congratulatory messages, leaders of foreign countries, political parties and organizations expressed confidence that under Xi's leadership, China will achieve greater prosperity and make more contributions to world peace and development.
The following is an edited version of some of the messages.
President of Madagascar Hery Rajaonarimampianina said Xi's election represents the Chinese people's recognition of and support for Xi.
Under Xi's leadership, China has entered a new era, he said, wishing Xi success while fulfilling the sublime mission and leading the Chinese people to build China into a great modernized country.
Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi extended warm congratulations and sincere wishes to Xi on his election.
He said he believes that Xi will continue to lead China to achieve greater advancement and development.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel and China have established a solid partnership. He said he expected the two sides to expand cooperation further in the future and wished that China could realize sustainable development and prosperity.
Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah wished that a friendly China would continue to prevail.
President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago Paula-Mae Weekes said she believes that her country's relations with China will enter a new era and benefit the two peoples.
King of Norway Harald V extended his most sincere greetings and best wishes to Xi on his election as Chinese president, saying he wishes China peace and prosperity.
Danish Prime Minister Lars Loekke Rasmussen said this year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Denmark-China all-round strategic partnership. He said he believes that the productive and energetic partnership will be further promoted.
Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO) Guy Ryder said China has made great contributions to promoting people's rights in workplaces, creating opportunities for decent employment, pushing forward social security and strengthening social dialogue.
The ILO expects to continue enhancing sound cooperation with China, he added.
Mongolian President Khaltmaa Battulga, King of Bhutan Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, and Prime Minister of Bhutan Tshering Tobgay are also among those who sent their congratulatory messages or letters to Xi. Enditem
