Singaporean stocks close 1.64 pct lower

SINGAPORE, March 28 (Xinhua) -- Singaporean stocks closed lower on Wednesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) wend down 1.64 percent or 56.57 points to close at 3,382.78.

A total of 1.59 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 1.36 billion Singapore dollars (about 1.04 billion U.S. dollars). Losers outnumbered gainers by 318 to 115.

The STI index closed up 0.79 percent or 26.89 points to close at 3439.35 Tuesday. Enditem
