Libya to address suspended construction contracts

Xinhua,March 28, 2018 Adjust font size:

TRIPOLI, March 27 (Xinhua) -- Libya's UN-backed Prime Minister Fayez Serraj on Tuesday issued a decision to form a committee to address suspended construction contracts, especially those with Chinese companies.

"The committee will handle all outstanding and suspended construction contracts and other related contracts with Chinese companies, through discussion and consultation with the relevant authorities of the People's Republic of China to reach a comprehensive vision that would rebalance the contractual relationship," the decision said.

The committee, led by Libyan Minister of Planning Taher Jehaimi and consisting of several government officials, will continue its work for two full months, and will present a report on the results of its work to the prime minister.

During the rule of late leader Muammar Gaddafi, Libya signed major contracts with Chinese companies to execute infrastructure, housing and railway projects. However, the political and security situation following the 2011 uprising in the country prevented the completion of the projects. Enditem
