ALGIERS, March 27 (Xinhua) -- Algeria will take anti-cybercrime as "one of its priorities," Commander of the National Gendarmerie (GN) General Menad Nouba said here Tuesday.
At the opening of the International Seminar on Cyber Security, Nouba said the GN has been aware of the challenges posed by cyberspace and the preservation of its security.
"The attack on electronic services could have serious consequences for people, property and public order, especially when these services are vital for the functioning of sensitive sectors such as security, health, energy and finance," he said.
Nouba noted that with the help of national security units, the Center for the Prevention and Fight Against Computer Crime and Cybercrime (CPLCIC) tackled in 2017 some 1,000 cybercrimes, an increase of 68 percent from that in 2016. The GN has implemented an integrated strategy for the modernization and development of its structure and units.
Experts from more than 19 countries and international organizations are attending the two-day meeting, in which workshops are organized to test the measures aimed at preventing and fighting cybercrimes. Enditem
