Vietnam cracks biggest-ever synthetic drug trafficking case

HANOI, March 27 (Xinhua) -- Police of Vietnam's northern Dien Bien province on Tuesday arrested three people and confiscated 135 cakes of heroin and 500,000 pills of lab-made drugs, the biggest amount of synthetic drug seized in the country so far, the provincial police said.

The police arrested two people from Dien Bien and one foreigner, but did not reveal the identities of the detainees.

According to the Vietnamese law, those convicted of smuggling over 600 grams of heroin or more than 2.5 kg of methamphetamine are punishable by death. Making or trading 100 grams of heroin or 300 grams of other illegal drugs also faces death penalty. Enditem
