NEW DELHI -- China and India pledged on Monday to further enhance their trade and economic cooperation so as to build a new international economic order and safeguard the interests of developing countries.

Addressing the 11th meeting of China-India Joint Group on Economic Relations, Trade, Science and Technology, Chinese Commerce Minister Zhong Shan said the trade volume between China and India reached a record high of 84.4 billion U.S. dollars in 2017, up 20.3 percent from the previous year. TOKYO -- Japan's transport ministry on Monday asked a local district court to fine Nissan Motor Co. for not adhering to warnings given to the automaker to refrain from using uncertified staff to conduct vehicle inspections.

In September last year, following both internal and external probes, Nissan was ordered to fix its substandard operations after it came to light that the malpractice was still taking place three weeks after the ministry issued the order. (Japan-Nissan-Fine)

NAY PYI TAW -- Myanmar's Union Parliament on Monday approved the borrowing of 360 million U.S. dollars' loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and ASEAN Infrastructural Fund (AIF) for road development projects in the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS), parliament sources said.

The road upgradation projects cover Yangon-Pathein, Bago-Thanlyin and Yangon-Mandalay roads.

Supported by the ADB, the six-country GMS Economic Cooperation Program, made up of Cambodia, China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam sharing the Mekong River, started in 1992 and a cross-border transport agreement was signed in 1999. (Myanmar-ADB-Road)

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia inaugurated the first water quality monitoring station with China's aid on Monday near the confluence of the Mekong and Tonle Sap rivers in the Diamond Island town.
