Kenyan bourse starts week low as turnover, indices decline

NAIROBI, March 26 (Xinhua) -- The Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) started the week low on Monday as both turnover and all key indices declined.

Market turnover stood at 7.6 million U.S. dollars on a volume of 21 million shares, down from 23.4 million worth 8.4 million dollars at the end of last week.

The NSE 20 Share Index sustained a downward trend as it decelerated to 3,831.18, down from 3,847.18 points.

Similarly, the NSE All Share Index (NASI) declined to close at 191.44 after hitting a peak of 192.17 points last Friday. On the other hand, the NSE 25 Share Index went down to stand at 4,945.31 from 4,957.44 last week on Friday.

Safaricom, Kengen, Equity Bank, Kenya Commercial Bank, Barclays Bank and Kenol Kobil were the top traded stocks.

The top gainers were Standard Chartered Bank (7.9 percent), EGGAD (7.4 percent), National Bank (6.4 percent) and Nation Media Group (6 percent).

While the top losers in the session were Athi River Mining (12 percent), Express Kenya (6 percent) and Total (3 percent). Enditem
