CAPE TOWN, March 25 (Xinhua) -- The following are news items in South Africa's major news outlets on Sunday:

-- Traditional leaders have rejected the proposed voluntary participation by rural residents in the traditional courts system.

The government re-introduced the Traditional Courts Bill last year, with a new clause which makes provision for people to opt out of the traditional system and pursue their matters in magistrates' courts, if they so wish. (City Press)

-- Former President Thabo Mbeki said on Saturday the damaged credibility of the African National Congress (ANC) has had some impact on the legacy left by Nelson Mandela.

Mbeki said in an interview with a Spanish newspaper that the governing party now needs to examine itself especially after ushering in a new leadership. (Eyewitness News)

-- Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan on Saturday reiterated his commitment to the founding principles of the governing African National Congress.
