ZAGREB, March 23 (Xinhua) -- Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic strongly condemned terrorism on Friday following a fatal attack in France.

"With deep regret I received news of the hostage crisis in the town of Trebes in which, unfortunately, there have been fatalities," Plenkovic said in a letter of condolence to his French counterpart Edouard Philippe.

"The Republic of Croatia strongly condemns terrorism and is resolute in the fight against the insane violence which encroaches on the foundations of modern democratic society."

He extended condolences to Philippe, the victims' families and citizens affected by the tragic act, according to Croatian news agency HINA.

Earlier in the day, a gunman took hostages at a supermarket in southern France, killing three people and wounding 16 others. Enditem
