WASHINGTON -- U.S. President Donald Trump tweeted on Thursday that John Bolton, former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, will replace General H.R. McMaster to be his new national security adviser.

Trump added that the announcement will be effective on April 9, when there will be an official contact handover. (US-Trump-McMaster)

BRUSSELS -- Following a time-consuming dinner discussion, leaders of the European Union (EU) on Thursday gave credence to Britain's allegation that "highly likely" Russia is responsible for poisoning a former spy on British soil, in which Moscow has denied any involvement.

"EUCO (European Council) agrees with UK government that highly likely Russia is responsible for Salisbury attack and that there is no other plausible explanation," tweeted European Council President Donald Tusk on Thursday evening after a summit working dinner. (EU-Spy Poisoning-Russia)

- - - -h WASHINGTON -- Despite strong warnings from business groups and trade experts, U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday signed a memorandum that could impose tariffs on up to 60 billion U.S. dollars of imports from China, the latest unilateral move that poses a threat to global trade.

Trump has directed U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer to publish a list of proposed Chinese goods that could be subject to tariffs in 15 days, while the U.S. Treasury Department will have 60 days to propose restrictions on Chinese investment in the United States, according to the presidential memorandum. DAMASCUS -- The first batch of Syrian rebels and their families evacuated the city of Harasta in Damascus' Eastern Ghouta countryside on Thursday, as part of a deal that allows the exit of 1,500 rebels and 6,000 family members.

Thirty buses carrying the first batch of 1,580 people, including 413 rebels, left Harasta for the rebel-held areas in Idlib province, a Xinhua reporter at the scene witnessed. (Syria-Eastern Ghouta-Evacuation-Rebels)

ADEN -- The Saudi Arabia-led coalition killed at least 10 Houthi rebels and injured 17 others on Thursday in airstrikes against Houthi reinforcement troops near Yemen's southern province of Lahj, a military official told Xinhua.
