PRAGUE, March 21 (Xinhua) -- Czech police announced on Wednesday a man was held in custody for an armed bank robbery.

The incident took place on Wednesday afternoon at Commercial Bank in Trebon, a town in the South Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic, said local police spokesman Milan Bajcura.

A man in black entered the bank at around 13:30 p.m. and demanded cash at gunpoint from a bank worker. The robber put money in a plastic bag and escaped from the bank riding a mountain bike.

The police arrested the suspect in less than one hour after the robbery thanks to the cooperation of witnesses and obtained traffic camera recording. The authorities reported the amount stolen was around 100,000 of Czech Crowns (about 4,830 U.S. dollars).

Police spokesman said the criminal could be sentenced to more than 10 years in prison. Bank spokesman Michael Teubner confirmed no one was injured in the armed robbery. (1 U.S. dollar=20.7 crowns) Enditem
