TOKYO -- Education ministers of China, Japan, and the Republic of Korea (ROK) exchanged views on further enhancing cooperation in education areas at the second China-Japan-ROK Education Ministers' Meeting held here on Wednesday.
Chinese Minister of Education Chen Baosheng and his Japanese counterpart Yoshimasa Hayashi, and South Korean Education Minister Kim Sang-gon who is also deputy prime minister, attended the meeting. (Japan-China-South Korea-Education)

MUAR, Malaysia -- Malaysia launched search and rescue operations after a sand dredging vessel capsized Wednesday in the waters off Malaysia in the Malacca Strait, leaving at least one dead and 14 crew members missing.
There were 18 crew members on the vessel, including one Malaysian, one Indonesian and 16 Chinese citizens, according to Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), the country's coast guard. (Malaysia-Shipwreck)

HONG KONG -- British International Trade Secretary Liam Fox said here Wednesday that protectionism does not work, while an open trading environment is needed for the growth of global economy.
"Protectionism restricts our ability to trade with one another. If you want prosperity, stability and security, the best route is through an open rules-based global trading system," Fox told Xinhua in an interview at the Great Festival of Innovation, which is being held in Hong Kong, when asked about his view towards the trade protection measures taken by the United States recently. KATHMANDU -- The World Bank announced on Wednesday that it approved a 200 million U.S. dollar credit to Nepal to improve the country's public financial management as a part of supporting Nepal's transition to federalism.
The credit, named "Fiscal and Public Financial Management Development Policy Credit", is the first in a two-part program to support the Nepali government in establishing a framework for fiscal federalism and improved public financial management, a press release of the World Bank (WB) stated.
