BEIJING, March 21 (Xinhua) -- Beijing launched a voluntary tree planting campaign on Wednesday, with a target to plant 1 million trees and care for 11 million trees in 2018, the Beijing Garden and Greening Bureau said.

The city has set up 20 tree planting sites, totaling more than 106 hectares.

Beijing also designated 22 sites, totaling 1,066 hectares, where volunteers can care for trees, including regular watering and weeding.

In 2018, Beijing will set up 90 sites for volunteers to adopt and care for 700,000 young trees, 745 old trees, and 2.2 million square meters of green space.

Figures show Beijing residents had voluntarily planted more than 200 million trees by the end of 2017. Enditem
