WASHINGTON, March 8 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday marked the International Women's Day by praising the contributions made by the women in the United States and around the world.

"On International Women's Day, we celebrate the many incredible contributions made by women of all ages in the United States and around the world," Trump said in a statement.

However, he said despite some recent progress around the world, "too many women still face tremendous barriers to participation in all aspects of life. This must change."

"When women are empowered, communities and entire nations thrive," the president said, citing that women are critical to economic growth and global stability.

"As we mark International Women's Day, we remain committed to the worthwhile mission of enhancing women's leadership in the world and building a stronger America for all," said the statement. Enditem
