Ugandan president vows to hunt down city murderers

KAMPALA, March 8 (Xinhua) -- Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has assured the country that he will hunt down city murderers like he did with terrorists and rebels.

Speaking during celebrations to mark the International Women's Day on Thursday, Museveni said those behind the recent wave of killings in and around Kampala will have nowhere to hide "because we have bought new equipment and we shall soon install it in every town".

"We first concentrated on defeating terrorists in the bush. We did all that was necessary to successfully eliminate those rebels. No one should worry about security in Uganda," Museveni said.

His comments come after 26 women were murdered in and Kampala in the last six months, with the perpetrators still at large.

"Hunting for those murderers is like looking for needles in the bush. But now we have new strategies and we shall hunt them down. Those killing women, kidnapping women will be dealt with," Museveni vowed.

The President said he will not hesitate to dust the equipment he used to fight the rebels in order to deal with the murderers.

Uganda has in the past been attacked by different rebel groups such as Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) and the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF).

The LRA operated in the north but have since been pushed into the Central African Republic jungles while the ADF who once operated in western Uganda were chased into the neighboring Democratic Republic of the Congo. Enditem
