KIEV, March 6 (Xinhua) -- Eight people, including two children, were killed in a suspected toxic gas poisoning in Ukraine's northern Zhytomyr region, authorities said Tuesday.

The family of six and their two friends were found dead in the family's apartment in the city of Berdychiv at about 8 p.m. local time (1800 GMT) Monday, the State Service for Emergencies said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the national police said the victims have presumably died because of inhaling carbon monoxide gas.

The police have launched an investigation into the incident. Enditem
