12 militants including shadow district governor killed in N. Afghanistan

MAIMANA, Afghanistan, March 6 (Xinhua) -- A dozen militants including a shadow district governor have been killed as government forces cleanup operations have been continuing in Shirin Tagab district of Afghanistan's northern Faryab province, provincial police spokesman Abdul Karim Yurush said Tuesday.

"A total of 12 rebels including a Taliban shadow district governor named Zabi Ghazi have been killed over the past couple of days in Shirin Tagab district as cleanup operations have continuing in the area," Yurush told Xinhua.

Several more Taliban militants have been injured and huge quantity of arms and ammunitions have been captured, the official contended.

Taliban militants who are in control of parts of the restive Faryab province have yet to make comment. Enditem
