Ethiopian attorney general urges respect of emergency rule

ADDIS ABABA, March 5 (Xinhua) -- Ethiopia's Attorney General Getachew Ambaye on Monday warned Ethiopians to refrain from undermining the recently introduced state of emergency rule.

"The Ethiopian government will no longer tolerate violations that breach the recently approved emergency rule," state news agency ENA quoted Ambaye as saying.

According to Ambaye, security forces have been tolerating various violations of the emergency rule, including grenade attacks and other violent acts over the past 15 days.

He said a special entity established to implement the state of emergency "will take measures to ensure rule of law and control violators."

The Ethiopian parliament on Friday approved the six-month state of emergency initially imposed by the country's Council of Ministers on Feb. 16, saying it was to protect the country's constitution and the safety of citizens and their property from the dangers that would arise from ongoing violent demonstrations in different parts of the country.
