Xinhua,March 06, 2018 Adjust font size:

TRIPOLI, March 5 (Xinhua) -- The Libyan eastern-based army on Monday denied local reports about an assassination attempt on General Abdarrazag al-Nathuri, the commander of the joint security chamber of the eastern city Benghazi.

Head of the army's media center, Sirajuddin al-Majbri, issued a brief statement denying targeting al-Nathuri.

Local media reported that al-Nathuri has been subjected to an assassination attempt on Monday morning by a car bomb which his convoy was passing by in Benghazi.

Al-Nathuri is the second highest military commander in the eastern-based army after General Khalifa Haftar.

Al-Nathuri was appointed by the eastern-based Parliament in August 2014 as head of the joint security chamber of Benghazi, which consists of army and police units. Enditem
