NEW DELHI, March 5 (Xinhua) -- The Indian government Monday ordered a high-level probe into a recruitment exam paper leak scam, amid huge protests by hundreds of government job aspirants in the national capital over the past one week.
The scam involved leakage of the question papers for job exams conducted by one of the country's largest recruiting agencies, the Staff Selection Commission (SSC), between Feb. 17 and 22.
"We have accepted the demands of protesting candidates and have given orders for Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry, the protest should now stop," Indian Home Minister Rajnath Singh told the media in Delhi.
Earlier in the day, the country's Supreme Court also agreed to hear a plea seeking a central investigation into the job exam paper leak scam, on March 12.
Hundreds of job seekers have been protesting in Delhi since Feb. 27 against what they term as "mass cheating", demanding not only the cancellation of the exam but also a CBI probe into the alleged leak of question papers.
The Staff Selection Commission has already recommended a CBI probe into the scam. "We have written a letter to the ministry of personnel asking for a CBI probe," SSC chairman Ashim Khurana earlier said. Enditem
