THE HAGUE, March 4 (Xinhua) -- The gap between Dutch league leaders PSV Eindhoven and Ajax grew to 10 points after Ajax lost 3-2 to Vitesse on Sunday. It was the fourth defeat for Ajax this season.
Navarone Foor smashed home the opening goal for Vitesse in Arnhem in the 16th minute after a mistake by Ajax defender Maximilian Wober. Bryan Linssen doubled the scoring in the second half. Ajax pulled one back but Linssen scored again to stretch the lead. Siem de Jong added one more for Ajax but it was too little too late.
On Saturday, PSV beat FC Utrecht 3-0. It was PSV's 22nd victory of the season. First, Utrecht defender Ramon Leeuwin made life difficult for his team with an own goal and then Luuk de Jong made it 2-0 for PSV with a bicycle-kick.
Steven Bergwijn finished off a solo effort and scored the third and final goal of the game. PSV now have 68 points from 26 matches followed by Ajax on 58 points and AZ on 56 points. AZ beat Excelsior 2-1 in Rotterdam on Saturday.
With eight rounds remaining, PSV are getting closer to clinching the Eredivisie title. Ajax will now have to watch out for AZ if they want to finish second.
Also on Saturday, Feyenoord lost 2-1 to NAC Breda. The reigning champions are currently fifth on the log and are already out of contention for the title. Enditem
