Italy's Fognini wins Brasil Open

SAO PAULO, March 4 (Xinhua) -- Italian second seed Fabio Fognini came from a set behind to defeat Chilean Nicolas Jarry in the Brasil Open final here on Sunday.

World No. 20 Fognini prevailed 1-6, 6-1, 6-4 to clinch the indoor clay-court title - his sixth ATP tournament victory.

The duel was the first ever meeting between the pair and Jarry's maiden appearance in an ATP tour final.

"It was a nerve-wracking match. The first set went so quickly with Nicolas playing so well. There was little I could do," Fognini said.

"I had to wait for him to lower his intensity and stop serving so well so that I could start to take the initiative," added the 30-year-old, whose victory will ensure he returns to the world top 20 this week.

Big-serving Jarry, 22, will rise to 61st in the rankings, up from 94th last month.

"He is a young player who will have a lot of chances to play in big matches like this one," Fognini said of his opponent. "He is already a complete player and he has a great serve."  Enditem
