Neymar leaves hospital after foot surgery

Xinhua,March 05, 2018 Adjust font size:

BELO HORIZONTE, March 4 (Xinhua) -- Paris Saint-Germain and Brazil forward Neymar was discharged from hospital on Sunday after surgery to repair a fractured bone in his right foot.

Neymar left the Mater Dei clinic in the southeastern Brazilian city of Belo Horizonte in a helicopter bound for the nearby Pampulha airport.

There, he boarded a private jet, which local media said took the 26-year-old to his luxury beachside mansion in Mangaratiba, around 100km west of Rio de Janeiro.

Neymar suffered a cracked fifth metatarsal during PSG's 3-0 Ligue 1 victory over Marseille on February 25.

Brazil team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar said Saturday's operation lasted 75 minutes and included the insertion of a screw to keep the damaged bone in place.

Brazil national team officials expect Neymar's recovery to take three months, a scenario that would rule him out of the rest of PSG's season and leave him with only two weeks to regain fitness for the World Cup in Russia.

The five-time World Cup winners will play their first match against Switzerland in the southern port city of Rostov-on-Don on June 17.  Enditem
